FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is padel?

Padel is a racket sport that's a bit like tennis and a bit like squash — played in doubles on an enclosed court about a third the size of a tennis court. The walls are part of the game (yes, you can play off them), and the scoring is the same as tennis. It's easy to pick up, fast-paced, and genuinely one of the most social sports out there. Most people are addicted after their first session.

Is padel hard to learn?

Honestly? It's one of the easier racket sports to get started with. The court is smaller, the rallies are more forgiving, and the walls mean the ball stays in play longer — so you get more action even as a complete beginner. Most people feel like they're having fun within the first 15 minutes. You don't need to be fit, fast, or have any racket sport background. You just need to show up.

What shape racket should I choose?

We recommend the teardrop shape for beginners — and it's the only shape we stock, because we think it's the right starting point for most players. Round rackets are very forgiving but you'll outgrow them within 6–12 months. Diamond rackets are powerful but unforgiving, and not what you want when you're learning. Teardrop sits right in the middle — a large sweet spot for control, with enough power to make the game satisfying. It's the shape that grows with you.

What are your rackets made of?

3K carbon fibre frame with a high-density EVA foam core. Carbon fibre keeps the racket light (around 360g) without sacrificing strength or stiffness — which means easier swings, less arm fatigue, and a more consistent hit across the whole face. It's the same construction used by much more expensive rackets on the market.

How much do your rackets cost?

Both the Ivory Green and Paloma Pink padel rackets are $149 NZD. That includes free shipping anywhere in New Zealand and a padded cover.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes — free standard delivery across New Zealand on every order. No minimum spend. Delivery takes 3–5 business days.

What's your returns policy?

We offer 30-day returns on unused items in their original packaging. If something's not right, email us at hello@paloma.social and we'll take care of it.

Do you ship internationally?

Right now we only ship within New Zealand. We're working on expanding — if you're based overseas and keen on our rackets, drop us a message at hello@paloma.social and we'll let you know when international shipping is available.

Where can I play padel in New Zealand?

Courts are popping up all over the country. Check out our Where Can I Play page — we've mapped every court we know of across NZ, from Auckland to Queenstown. If you know of a court we've missed, let us know.

Is padel the same as pickleball?

Nope — they're two different sports, though both are having a moment right now. Padel uses a solid racket and is played on an enclosed court with walls. Pickleball uses a paddle and is played on a smaller, open court (usually indoors). Both are social, beginner-friendly, and very addictive.
